Government Policy Beggaring Dublin
Tuesday the 4th of August 2009
Central Government policy on the Local Government Fund (LGF) is skimping on Dubliners with a spend of €193 per head of population, as opposed to the national average of €217 – and this is despite the fact that state departments continue to refuse to pay the commercial rates that the Dublin City Council is entitled to and city ratepayers expect. Over the last ten years the ratepayers of Dublin City Centre had to pick up the costs of running the City by around €230 million due to the freeloading attitudes of Central Government Departments.
Other Councils within the Greater Dublin Area are also being left without, although at least they aren’t having to carry free-loading government departments: Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown, €198; Fingal, €131; while South Dublin Council gets a derisory €103 per resident.
This agenda by Central Government of beggaring Dublin City and its hinterland must be stopped in the interest of proper, good and competent Government.
