• Rejuvenating Dublin's Tourism Product

  Dublin City Business Association commissioned Jerome Casey and Felim O’Rourke to undertake a study of tourism in Dublin and to make least-cost recommendations for its rejuvenation. The World Tourism Organisation concluded (in relation to Ireland) that "there appears to be very little correlation between marketing spending by National Tourism Organisations and international arrivals". 
  

  Within Ireland, there is a mismatch between the Irish tourism market and the public resources devoted to it. 

  33 existing tourist attractions in Dublin were reviewed, and low-cost initiatives suggested for their improvement.

  From 2000 – 2010 Ireland’s share of world tourism visitors has fallen sharply. In 2004, Ireland changed from being a destination country for incoming tourists to an origin country for Irish, outgoing tourists.

  Dublin must move from passive approval of tourist activities to an active development of tourism as a priority industry in regenerating the city’s economy.

Dublin Port Tunnel

Dublin Port Tunnel
The Dublin Port Tunnel will open to traffic on Wednesday 20th December 2006. All heavy goods vehicles (over 3.5 tonnes) and buses containing 25= seats will be toll free.

Heavy Goods Vehicle Management Strategy
From 19th February 2007, Dublin City Council will introduce the HGV Management Strategy for the city centre. This strategy will prohibit 5+ axle vehicles or greater from entering the city centre cordon area from Monday to Sunday between the hours 7:00-1900.

Permits
Any 5+ axle vehicles entering the city centre cordon during these hours must apply for a permit. Applications for permits are on line from 12th February 2007.

If your premises is receiving or sending goods (5+ axle) you must register your premises online before 1st May 2007. An online premises registration system will be operational from April 2007. From May 1st 2007 permits will only be issued for trips to premises that have registered on this system.
