Dublin Bus Pioneers Biofuel Use

Wednesday the 14th of June 2006

Dublin Bus is currently operating five of its open top tour vehicles on a blend of bio-diesel. While this is currently more expensive than ordinary diesel, the company is looking at the future economic and environmental benefits of the technology. The first biofuel buses were launched by Transport Minister, Martin Cullen TD, in May '06. Dublin Bus is also the first transport company to incorporate the use of biofuel into its operations. Speaking at the launch, Minister Cullen said: "Congratulations to Dublin Bus on piloting this initiative. Measures such as this are welcome and I would hope that similar initiatives would be taken on board by other public transport companies in Ireland."
