DCBA Meets the Fashion Press

Wednesday the 8th of February 2006

One of the first purpose-built department stores in the world was built in Dublin in 1853 on the site of Clery's today. Since then 'The New Palatial Mart' as it was known, has been joined in Dublin City Centre by Brown Thomas, Arnotts, Roches Stores, Clery's, Jervis Shopping Centre, Ilac Shopping Centre and Stephen's Green Shopping Centre  - Ireland's leading fashion retailers. The fashion styles may have changed but Dublin City Centre's Love Affair with Fashion continues and it retains today its status as Ireland's premier fashion destination.

At an exclusive private lunch at Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud today representatives of Ireland's leading retailers met with the Irish fashion press. There they were treated to a historical look at the city's fashion streets and the social and cultural influences on Irish retail offering throughout the last 150 years by Dublin Historian Pat Liddy.

They were also given an overview of the future retail development of the city centre, an insight into the profile of the typical city centre shopper and an overview of the city centre's retail fashion offering.

The footfall on the city's high streets is 660,000 every day which creates a unique and enjoyable atmosphere that cannot be replicated anywhere.  From Armani to Zara and cutting edge fashion including Dolce & Gabbana, Dublin City Centre has over 4,000 shops and 10 department stores and shopping centres - the largest concentration of shops, choice and value for money than anywhere else in the country.
