DCBA Calls for 'Yes' Vote for Lisbon Reform Treaty

Sunday the 11th of May 2008

The Dublin City Business Association, which represents retailers, property owners and transport companies in Dublin City Centre, called today for people to vote YES to the Lisbon Reform Treaty

According to Tom Coffey, Chief Executive of the DCBA, "The No campaign is a bundle of contradictory slogans following the Euro sceptic opt out policies of the British. I don't believe that the Irish people will be fooled by these slogans. The majority of Irish people have voted in a positive way for Europe I believe they will do so again and vote yes for the Lisbon Treaty. Europe has been very good for Ireland and we need this to continue. Anything other than a YES vote is the wrong decision for Ireland. We must vote YES for a better deal in Europe."

"The Lisbon Treaty is about reforming the EU to ensure the EU is fit for purpose to meet the new challenges of the 21st century like energy security, climate change. A YES to the Lisbon Treaty will lead to a more efficient and effective EU and that directly benefits Ireland. The Lisbon Treaty also maintains Ireland's veto over EU tax proposals and copper fastens our neutrality."

A NO to the Lisbon Treaty will COST Ireland. Ireland will lose influence and goodwill among our EU partners which is vital to achieving its goals in the EU. There is no 'cost-free' rejection of the Lisbon Treaty.

DCBA is a member of the Business Alliance for Europe which represents nearly 40 of Ireland's Leading Business and Professional organisations.
