From 2000 to 2006, Bus Eireann have undergone a series of changes and have strived to achieve a better service that changes with the needs of their customers in the Eastern Region.

Recently they have achieved a phenomenal 100% increase in departures and 150% increase in passenger numbers on their service. There has also been a number of new routes added which include; Blanchardstown, Rathoath, Ashbourne and also a Balbriggan Town Service. In addition to new routes, Bus Eireann have also expanded many of their existing routes including;

• Earlier departures ex Kells and Drogheda
• Higher frequency services
• Drogheda/ Dublin
• Dunsaughlin/ Dublin
• Introduction of a new Nightrider service-late night service-on 5 routes
• Extensions to Drogheda Town Service

Bus Eireann also have created a successful and dedicated Airport Service, which caters for passengers to and from Dublin Airport. There are 60 services from Drogheda to Dublin Airport daily, 15 services from Dundalk to Dublin Airport and 5 services from Monaghan to Dublin Airport. In addition to these services, there are also Interurban links from Derry, Belfast and Letterkenny.

Using results taken from the Census from 2002-2006, Bus Eireann have come up with a strategic plan to meet the current and growing demand. For example, the figures between 2000 and 2006 for Leinster alone were up 187,000. To meet this demand Bus Eireann plan to invest €54.9 million into the growth and expansion of their services. Over the next three years, Bus Eireann plan to purchase 165 new buses. In 07/08 they will buy 75 new buses which will comprise of 41 replacement buses and 34 additional ones. Along with everything previously mentioned, the recruitment of new drivers and Bus Eireann's plan to create 95% accessibility looks very promising indeed.
