About DCBA - DCBA Projects

Hapenny Bridge

At any given time the organisation is working on a number of initiatives. Current projects include:

City Centre Marketing

Dublin City Council and DCBA members combined to undertake an advertising and public relations campaign to highlight and promote the unique attributes of the city centre. The campaign includes television, radio and poster advertising, t-bar posters, box lights, and extensive media relations and promotional activities to highlight the travel options, shopping and leisure experience that the city centre of Dublin has to offer.

Business Improvement Districts

The DCBA worked with Central and Local Government to facilitate the introduction of Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) into Ireland. BIDs enable local businesses in a pre-defined area to work together and with the Local Authority to maximize collective funds to improve their own local areas.

Campaign Against Public Disorder

Dublin City Centre is one of the safest cities in the world during the day-time. At night between the hours of 12.00 and 03.00 hours the city centre is perceived as menacing and uninviting as a result of alcohol related violence. The DCBA is working with the Gardai and Dublin City Council in an effort to raise awareness of and combat the causes of the public disorder issue which causes a negative perception of the city centre and prevents visitors from coming into their Capital City at night.

City Centre Map

The DCBA, in association with famous Dublin historian, Pat Liddy, prints and circulates one million copies annually of a full colour city centre map. This is updated each year as new developments (e.g. Luas, The Spire, etc.) are introduced to the city centre. It is freely available to all residents and tourists visiting the city centre.

New City Logo

As in New York, Barcelona, etc., the members of DCBA in partnership with Dublin City Council developed a new logo for Dublin City Centre to convey its unique identity and brand. This logo is used on all marketing materials and is being extended to be used on city centre promotional items including hats, umbrellas, etc.

CCTV

In the 1980s, DCBA initiated and co-funded (along with the Department of Justice and the  Gardai) the CCTV system on streets in city centre. (Parnell Square to St. Stephen's Green and IFSC to Capel Street.) This, combined with the extensive CCTV systems in shops and offices, has made a huge contribution in keeping Dublin safe for customers, staff and visitors to our city. Dublin is now one of the safest cities in the world.

Footfall Counting

The DCBA operates the most comprehensive system of electronic CCTV footfall counting on city high streets. Over the last 20 years footfall has increased by over 300%. These systems, when combined with public transport occupancy and car occupancy in the 20 shoppers' car parks in city centre and the turnover in the retail till as well as the number of transactions, provide a very useful management tool for business.
